What kinds of things do you leave out that your baby can't touch?
Q. Once your baby become mobile, what things did you intentionally leave out that you don't want your baby to touch or get into? Why did you choose to leave them out and in reach instead of putting them somewhere else? How often does your baby get into them and what do you do to teach that you won't allow it?

A. Books and plants. I want her to learn to respect books and I want her to learn to stay away from the plants. I'm a huge reader and I want her to be the same, so I'd like her to learn from an early age that books are something to be treasured and not destroyed. As far as the plants go, I have a lot of floor plants and a lot of orchids. It'd be difficult for me to get them all out of her way while keeping them alive and thriving. Many of them are also dangerous and I think it's important that she learn to stay away from these. I felt that if they remain static in her environment that she'd lose interest in them anyway. Obviously since they are poisonous she is never left alone anywhere near them. So far she's been good about staying away… [cont.]
