Why are cover bands more popular than good original bands?
Q. Ok well you take a cover band, and then you take an original band. Pay attention to how many people show up to see the cover band over the band that plays their own songs all night long. Majority of people will go watch the cover band. No matter how good the original band is! Seems like the only way you make it as an original band is if you have your songs on the radio. If you do not, you could have all the talent in the world. But a cover band will always outdraw you. Why is this?

A. yes, you can have a jeweler do it but i would not recomend it real gold is very soft that is why it is hardened with nickel. talk to a jeweler and explain what you want. you did not specify if the gold you wanted to cover was pure or an alloy.

How do Cover Bands work?
Q. They cover other bands songs to make money. How does this work given copyright laws and such?
Asked by gofyourselfloser - Sat Jan 3 01:16:49 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. this one sounds like the beginning of something big. The bands that write the songs have lawyers... Lots of them. It's like the Government... here... anyways. The lawyers may even be on salary... if the songs in question are making a lot of money anyways the band's lawyer may have to arrange the whole package... and that is gonna cost a lot. I'm sure the whole thing works out even all the way around but wouldn't it be prudent to say the more money to be made by a cover the more the copyright transfer is gonna cost... Sometimes the song is not owned by one guy in the band and a deal has to be made for all concerned. I know of one artist that can't even give permission to quote him without the rest of the band getting at least half. … [cont.]

How can I contact the "press" to attend/cover my bands show? I cant find anything anywhere, please help.?
Q. My band is having a huge show, with the potential of "wooing" a Sony record producer that night. We want to invite the "media/press" to this night, as It will be sure to be out stepping stone into the limelight. I just want to know is there any way about getting members of Rolling Stone/Revolver/Metal Edge/L.A. Weekly or any other magazines to attend? Thank You.

A. Get on the net and look up all of the places you cited. Find the contact information and then call them. Find out from the secretary that will inevitably answer the phone, the name of the person you ought to be reaching out to. Then send a press release package to that person using priority mail. For instructions on how to put together a good press release check out the book How to Survive and Prosper As An Artist by Caroll Michels. She breaks it down pretty well. Good luck.

A. Lots of bands are like that. For example, none of the Beatles' catalog is on Itunes or any electronic source. It has to do with contracts, record companies, and copyright laws.

What are some good songs for a rock band to cover at a battle of the bands?
Q. We are made of 2 guitarists, one who has been playing for 1 and a half years but is amazing and can play anything from van halen to yngwie, and another who is pretty good, a decent singer, an ok drummer who has only been playing for 3 months, and a bad bassist. any song suggestions?
Asked by Michael Resnikoff - Sat May 2 21:44:12 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. well if the singer can sing high sing More Than a Feeling by Boston or take it down an octave the bass part is easy and the drum part is easy and has some killer guitar riffs and you will earn crowd points or if you have balls go with Don't Stop Believing by Journey, but it has a piano part, or do any acdc song the bass parts aren't that difficult or do You Really Got by Van Halen anyone of those suggestions will earn major kudos for a battle of the bands show and accommodates your band

Q. i hate when artists play other bands material, so why do people buy or put up with these bands playing others material?
Asked by Dave S - Wed Oct 8 12:04:01 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Just because YOU hate it doesn't mean everyone else does. Personally, I like to hear a different spin on the same song. And I believe 99.9% of the time the bands that are being covered are flattered that another band wants to put out their own version. 'Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery' i've heard somewhere...or something like that. Everyone has different tastes, just cause you don't like covers doesn't mean I'm going to stop buying them.
