Does anyone know of a place on the internet that caters exclusively to the computer/electronic musician?
Q. I create songs using computer based programs such as Fruity Loops and Ejay. What I'm looking for is a web sight exclusively for this type of music where I could upload my songs. I realize there are places like CD Baby and others on the net, that will accept this type of songs, but they don't cater exclusively to this style. Are there any such places as the ones I seek- or am I seeking in vain?

A. I doubt it. There wouldn't be much of a market for such a genre. Wouldn't be worth it developing a site just for that. try... if you already haven't.

Is it possible to make a living as an electronic musician?
Q. Are there any professional electronic musicians out there? I am an aspiring musican. Currently I compose stuff in my free time, but I want to make this a full time thing. I don't have a band. I pretty much compose using digitial audio software on my computer. So is it possible to be a full time electronic musician on your own?

A. Most artists make a good share of their money from touring, and as an electronic musician, you won't be abe to play live without people falling asleep. Even if you were to release an album that went to number one on the charts, you would not get that much (perhaps a few dollars per album sold). While making music is fun, people who can actually play instruments and entertain are the ones that will make the money. I don't mean to discourage you, follow your dreams to your heart's content, but in all realism, you will need something to fall back on.

A. It's called a Vocoder. You can get software versions that let you blend a vocal track with a synth or melody track so you end up with a robot sounding singing voice. It pitch adjust the voice according to the music.

A. Scour the stereo stores for any high quality used mutitrack reel to reel tape recorders at a price you can swing. While digital recording applications are great there are things you can only learn by messing with analog tape.

What should I get? A 30 GB iPod or an electronic drumset?
Q. I'm in a huge dilemma. I just graduated, and my parents are asking me what I want as a gift. I said either a 30 GB iPod video or an electronic drumset. I said a 30 GB iPod because I have a Mac and it would be more friendly to it. I'm having second thoughts because I'd want to put movies on it and I can't do that unless I have the correct software to do it. I have MacTheRipper, but I have no idea how to use it. I want an electronic drumset because I've always wanted one to start my career as a musician. The part where I'm having second thoughts is that my room is too small for one. What should I get? PLEASE don't tell me both. I need a serious answer. I have a 4 GB iPod Nano.

A. definitely a drumset! an ipod is so common. and the experience you'll get from it is also limited, too confining for your creative ideas. head for the unusual experience. go for something few people dares. get the drumset! whatever you decide on, always get something that excites you more.

Any good electronic albums/musicians out there? (click for more details)?
Q. Hi, I'm searching for a electronic artist that is very unique and produces very interesting sounds and melodies. I personally prefer there to be singing, but if there isn't, I don't mind. Do they use any other electronic instruments other than the synthesizer? Are there any electro albums I should buy? Famous or not, New or old- I don't care. My favorite electronic musicians are: - Little Boots - Yazoo - Gary Numan - I love the (electronic) music produced in video games - The (old) doctor who theme tune I dislike electro-dance music.

people like rock and roll and hate electronic music?
Q. as an electronic musician/composer and producer I find it infuriating that almost everyone I meet likes rock and roll (Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, etc.) and hates electronic music. I am not putting that classic style down, I just feel I am the only one that appreciates synthesizers and drum machines. Most people will say that they hate this kind of music because it is cold, lifeless and robotic but then how do you explain the phenomenal success of artists like Depeche Mode who's music personally moves me more than most 'acoustic' bands? I play guitar too but mostly just to write songs, then I take my ideas to the keyboard and computer. Fun!

Does anybody know how to make electronic music professionally?
Q. I'm 22. is it too late to be a DJ? I've just got into electronic music and I want to start making some but I don't know what equipments and softwares I need as a beginner. Can anybody tell me what equipments I need right now and what equipments I will need once it gets serious? I've looked at equipments that justice uses and these guys use a lot of mixers and pro-tool like devices. Oh and also I want to know if all electronic musicians make their music with just pre-recorded sounds from softwares and devices or they actually create these sounds by touching circuit board inside these devices. Thanks guys.

Do all cymbals on an electronic drum set sound bad?
Q. I was looking to purchase an electric drum set because I live in an apartment that is adjacent to 3 others so there is an obvious need to be quiet. I have been looking at kits and some have real cymbals and most have rubber cymbals I was wondering if the rubber cymbals made an unrealistic sound? I'm a studio musician looking just for a set of drums to record with and I need some advice any help would be appreciated
Asked by DerekL - Tue Dec 1 13:29:24 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. My drum set is an electronic set that is bottom of the barrel and SUPER cheap (OSP MkII). They do sound worse than real cymbals (anything electronic always will) but follow my link and judge for yourself. I just recorded it by plugging the headphone jack directly into my sound card. Nothing fancy, nothing special. This will probably the worst sound you can get out of electronic cymbals, it only gets better from there.

Can I bring my electronic piano on an airplane (safely and inexpensively?)?
Q. I assume I can bring my electric piano on an airplane...as many musicians fly all around. I guess my question is, (1) what kind of case would be best, and (2) do I need to arrange it with the airlines since it is a bit oversized (lightweight yamaha electronic piano about 2' x 4')
Asked by roltheatre - Sun Nov 19 19:09:45 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, call the airlines and get all the info on transporting the keyboard. Musical instruments are a big problem because you cannot carry them on the plane and then have to go into the hold of the plane. Depending on the type of instrument the lack of pressure and cold and heat in the hold can really affect instruments. This is the reason a lot of professional musicians charter planes and use buses.

I'm having trouble identifying a certain musical instrument.?
Q. I saw the piece last night. It's an electronic instrument with an antennae. The musician uses his left hand to press some sort of button. The musician uses his right hand in a sort of a clenched fist. I believe that some how the right hand interferes with the signal from the antennae. The instrument produces a strange "sci-fi" like sound. Anybody have any ideas?
Asked by scottnra - Sun Nov 11 15:48:33 2007 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments

A. That is a theremin. It has an oscillator whose audio frequency is disturbed by putting a hand into its antenna field. It is an old instrument going back to tube-type oscillators in the 1920's (invented by Leon Theremin). In Europe it is often called an "Onde de Martineau." The modern version of that was a Moog Synthesizer. Moog died recently and his biography has some details. The woman who was the best known theremin player also died within the last year and I have forgotten her name.
