Does the brain of a musician function in a dramatically different way than a non-musician?
Q. I've always been curious. You see many moody, disturbed, and just artistic musicians. I guess this goes for artists as well. Creative people. Is there something up with the brain of a musician? I play piano and am beginning bass. The only notable thing is that my dreams are full of music. Other than that, are there any differences physically that are known? Thanks in advance!! ~Indie G

A. I have to believe it works differently. The process of learning music, especially writing or composing it (as opposed to reciting it) uses the brain in a completely different way than other activities would. Most musicians tend to approch conflict or problems in a way most other people would not immediately think of. But please don't confuse it with intelligence. While there are plenty of very smart players around, there are waaayy too many stupid artists and musicians out there.
